About Patrick
Patrick Roemer loved animals deeply. His dog, Cici, was more than a pet, she was a source of comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. Through his connection with animals, Patrick found peace and light as he navigated the challenges of depression and anxiety. He was cherished by his parents, Fronzie and Steve, and his siblings, Mags and Ben, who remember him with enduring love and pride.
Patrick brought joy to everyone who knew him. His family remembers his infectious laugh, his thoughtful conversations, his creative mind, his discipline for physical fitness, and most of all, his genuine love for dogs. His friends recall his quick wit, loyalty, compassion, and fearless competitiveness whether on the wrestling mat, the rugby field, or an obstacle course.
Patrick had an extraordinary bond with his animals. After losing Cici unexpectedly, he adopted Indy, a Cici lookalike, and looked forward to bringing her with him when he began college at Colorado State University in the fall of 2020.
Tragically, Patrick’s struggle with depression and anxiety took him from his loved ones at just 18 years old. His loss was profound, but so was the love he left behind.
In the wake of that loss, Patrick’s family and friends created Paws for Patrick to honor his memory and extend to others the comfort that animals once brought Patrick. What began as a tribute has become a nationwide movement, improving the mental health of young people through the healing connection of animals.
Through our Emotional Support Animal Program, we help families access ESA letters, adoptions, and training to provide daily comfort and companionship. Our Therapy Dog Program brings trained dogs into schools, mental health facilities, and community spaces to offer relief and connection. And our Facility Dog Program, supported by the Grayson Murray Foundation, places highly skilled dogs with professionals who work with youth, enhancing therapeutic and learning environments.
Thousands of young people have already felt the impact of a dog’s presence- a steady heartbeat, a wagging tail, a moment of comfort in a difficult time. Every visit, every connection, every match carries Patrick’s spirit forward, reminding us all that even in the face of loss, love and hope endure.
Five years. Thousands of lives touched. One lasting legacy — bringing comfort, healing, and connection to young people through the love of animals.
